Mar 8, 2011 - Mindfulness of the Body. I wish more people who discussed the Dhamma on the Internet shared your approach. He remains focused on feelings in & of themselves the mind in & of itself mental qualities in & of themselves Those questions, the Buddha said, lead you into a thicket of views and leave you stuck on the thorns. Feb 14, 2008 - (And here begins the satipatthana formula:) He remains focused on the body in & of itself — ardent, alert, & mindful — putting aside greed & distress with reference to the world. Dec 11, 2013 - The implication is that the activity, and discipline, the training, the sacrifices, are only worth it if there is money on the table. Here are my notes from Gil's talk, along with the original . Last night, I had the good fortune of attending Gil's second talk on Mindfulness of the Body, part of his series on the Satipatthana Sutta on The Foundations of Mindfulness. Looked at from a more specifically Buddhist perspective, an approach based solely around non-judgmental awareness of the breath amounts to only one of the eight “folds”. Arguably the single most influential sutta on meditation is the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta (Majjhima Nikāya 10, also Dīgha Nikāya 22). If you ever feel drawn to a Goenka-style retreat, I would like to hear your perspective on it. In fact, the Canon is full of good, useful material for guiding practice. I believe it's the only sutta included in substantially the same form in two Nikāyas. Jan 9, 2013 - Satipaṭṭhāna.
